Mental-Health Bill must not repeat mistakes of the past - Pugh

Commenting on the Mental Health Bill published today, Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, John Pugh MP said:

"Mental health is one of the most serious challenges facing our society.

"This is the most difficult piece of legislation the Government will have to pass.

"It touches on fundamental understandings of freedom and autonomy and it will be very difficult to get the right balance between individual rights and community interests.

"All legislators and campaigners need to approach this important issue with a fresh perspective and not repeat the mistakes of the past."
