7.45.57pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sat 15th Sep 2007

A disabled woman who unlawfully claimed benefits of £37,981 over a five year period has been jailed for 10 weeks.

Janet Ann Brook, 50, of Armes Street, Norwich, admitted dishonestly claiming the housing and council tax benefit between October 2001 and November 2006.

Michael Clare, defending at Norwich Crown Court, said she had serious ailments and breathing problems.

Judge Peter Jacobs said disabled people were subject to the law like everyone else and fraudsters would go to prison.
