Injured Hero raises cash for Rehab Centre

A Soldier who spent six months at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court has completed a gruelling 125-mile canoe race to raise £11,000 for the centre.Major David Bradley was seriously injured in Iraq while rescuing colleagues in Basra in 2004.

The father-of-two was given a five per cent chance of survival after being hit by rocket-powered grenades.He survived, but lost the sight in his right eye and part of his right shoulder and hand. The officer spent six months at Headley Court regaining use of his arm.

As his way of saying thanks, Major Bradley, with Steve Vinall , completed the 60th annual Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race to raise money for the rehabilitation centre.

The pair set off from Devizes, Wiltshire, at 4pm on Saturday, arriving at the finish line at 7.30pm on Sunday.

Major Bradley said he was confident he could reach his fundraising target of £12,000 for Headley Court

The money raised will now go towards the Arkenis Help for Heroes campaign, which aims to raise £5 million for a swimming pool and gym complex at the Headley Court centre.
