Disabled badges stolen from cars

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 22nd Apr 2008

Thieves have been smashing car windows in order to steal disabled parking badges, police in Berkshire have said. Officers are investigating three similar incidents in Chalvey, Slough. On Friday night, a Ford Escort and a Nissan Almera were broken into in Burlington Avenue.

On Sunday a Toyota parked in The Crescent was targeted. On all occasions nothing was taken apart from the car's disabled parking badge. Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Pc Jerusha Lyseight-Jones, of Thames Valley Police, said: "The thefts have caused a lot of distress and inconvenience to disabled motorists who obviously need the badges to go about their daily lives. If you have been offered a disabled parking badge for sale, I would urge you to come forward and help us catch these despicable thieves."
