Clampdown on the phoney disabled

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 22nd Apr 2008

Police are to check cars displaying disabled signs to ensure they are genuine.

Anyone caught with a fake Blue Badge in Wiltshire, or using a real one when they do not need one, could be fined up to £1,000.

The checks will be starting in Chippenham shortly. Blue Badge holders are exempt from limits on parking times imposed on others and can park on single and double yellow lines.
