Vulnerable dementia patients treated inappropriately - Gidley12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 29th Apr 2008
Commenting on today's [Monday] report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia which reveals that up to 105,000 people with dementia are being given inappropriate anti-psychotic drugs, Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, Sandra Gidley said: "This bad practice is nothing short of the abuse of vulnerable people and has to stop now. If people with dementia are well looked after then there is no need to treat them with powerful, inappropriate medicines. This report demonstrates a good case for regular audits of prescribing practice in all nursing homes. If one nursing home can do it well, then others should be able to follow their example."
