Government support for disabled must be better directed - Alexander

16 Jan 2007

Commenting on today's [Tuesday] Public Accounts Committee report on the Department for Work and Pensions' support for disabled people, Liberal Democrat Disability Spokesperson, Danny Alexander MP said:

"This report reveals the Government's attempts to help disabled people back into work are failing. Too few people are being helped, and too little emphasis is put on keeping people in work when they become disabled.

"Support for disabled people needs to be better funded and better directed if the target of getting one million people off incapacity benefit is to be met. The Government must urgently learn the lessons of this report and address the funding black hole before welfare reform is rolled out."
