The '10,600 people died within six weeks of being declared fit to work by Atos' stat is simply wrong

It's pretty much accepted that the French IT firm Atos, which was tasked by the Department of Work and Pensions with assessing the ability of disability benefits claimants to work under the new Employment and Support Allowance scheme, has not done a good job. Atos, it appears, agree with that: they said of their contract "In its current form it is not working for claimants, for DWP or for Atos Healthcare. For several months now we have been endeavouring to agree an early exit from the contract, which is due to expire in August 2015. Despite these ongoing discussions, we will not walk away from a frontline service."

We say end over 65s PIP assessments

DR UK calls for end to automatic PIP assessment for over 65s Disability Rights UK, along with Age UK and Parkinson's UK, has written to the Minister for Disabled People Mike Penning calling for the DWP to abandon its plans to automatically reassess for PIP those DLA claimants who were under 65 as of 8 April 2013 but are now over 65 or will be by the time they are reassessed.

Six years ago today, July the 2nd, I was sitting in the European Parliament when the Commission announced that they would bring forward comprehensive anti discrimination legislation. It was something that a few of us had been working towards for a number of years and we were delighted that all our hard work had paid off. Now, all these years later everyone is still waiting! We wanted to prevent discrimination across the EU on the grounds of disability, age,religion or belief and sexual orientation (race and gender are already covered as is employment). Of course many countries have their own legislation but many countries don't or don't cover all areas of discrimination. Every European citizen should have the same rights as everyone else. I hope the new MEPs will keep up the pressure on the Commission
