Offenders help disabled gardeners

A group of young offenders have transformed a building used by a community project for disabled people by painting a colourful mural. Fifteen youngsters used their spare time to paint the portable cabin, which is home to Newbury's Growing 4 All.

A businesswoman who set up a company making clothes for disabled people has been nominated for a prestigious award. Annabel McMahon, who set up Rackety's of Leek, Staffordshire, has made it to the finals of HSBC's Start-up Stars competition.

Disabled service gets £500k boost

A service helping pensioners and people with disabilities in Powys is set to receive a major overhaul thanks to a £500,000 cash boost, say officials. Powys Community Equipment Service supplies items such as hoists to bedridden people, and helps them continue to live in their own homes.

Review of long-term care funding

The government is to examine whether reforms are needed to the system of funding long-term care of elderly and disabled people in England. Proposals for a Green Paper to look at the issue were contained in the Comprehensive Spending Review.
