BBC to help pensioners go digital

The BBC is to be given the details of millions of pensioners and disabled people, so that it can help them convert their televisions to digital. The move is part of the government's Digital Switchover Bill, which featured in the Queen's speech on Wednesday.

Diabetes 'hitting poor hardest'

Britain's poorest communities are 2.5 times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than the general population, research suggests. They are also 3.5 times more likely to develop serious complications of diabetes, including heart disease. The report, by the charity Diabetes UK and the All Party Parliamentary Group for Diabetes, calls for action to tackle social inequalities.

Controversial laws allowing people with untreatable personality disorders to be detained, even if they have not committed a crime, are to be revived. The draft Mental Health Bill was axed in March amid much opposition.

Worthing set to get Council Magazine at the expense of community groups.

Liberal Democrat Councillors last week discussed the Tory Cabinet's decision to publish a 2nd edition of the town's "Vibe" magazine and proposed that the budget is given to support the voluntary and community sector in the town.The Tory committee members voted against the £9,000 being given to the Worthing Shopmobility Scheme before Christmas, instead supporting the printing of "Vibe" Magazine,ironically to consult residents on the budget shortfalls!
