Gene 'increases Alzheimer's risk'
People born with a particular gene may have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease later in life, according to researchers. Canadian and US scientists linked the illness with the SORL1 gene.

City special school will be the first to gain status
A Derby special school is set to become the first of its kind in the city to take on specialist status. Staff and pupils at St Andrew's Special School are busy raising the £20,000 needed to support their bid to the Government, which has to be submitted by March 7.

Blind Man is left after buses fail to stop
A Blind pensioner was told to "put his arm out" if he wanted to catch his bus after several services failed to stop for him. Robert Morley uses the number 68 Arriva service four times a week to travel into Derby city centre from his home in Osmaston Road.

Cancer patient considers new home
A cancer patient says he is planning to move from England to Scotland to be sure of getting a drug which may prolong his life on the NHS. George King, from Skelton, Teeside has a rare terminal form of bone cancer. It is currently in remission, but when it returns he wants the treatment which may extend his life - the drug Velcade.
